Gates Warranty Information

The following is a summary of manufacturer warranty terms. This summary in no way modifies or supersedes the original terms.

Light-Duty Products (e.g., Gates products designed for use in passenger vehicles): Limited warranty applies for the life of merchandise.

Color fade and color difference is not warranted. This warranty is void if the defect is caused by improper installation, use or maintenance of the Goods, or used for racing or competition. Goods are not warranted to comply with laws that may apply to uses of the Goods not stated in related materials, e.g., use in manned or unmanned aviation or life support applications. Failure to replace timing belts or other gates products as specified may result in catastrophic engine or equipment damage, for which Gates disclaims all responsibility, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Please collect and prepare for shipment all associated documents and parts, including, without limitation, all purchase invoices, repair orders and products believed to be defective (including all components of a kit if a kit component is believed to be defective). Please ship the completed warranty claim form, along with all required documentation and other items to the appropriate address indicated in the form below, within 45 days of initial failure. Failure to provide all necessary documentation and items within 45 days of the initial failure may result in the denial of your claim or a delay in processing.

Merchandise is warranted to be free from defects in material or workmanship for the specified replacement interval determined by the original equipment car manufacturer.

The warranty shall be void to the extent that any of the following, in the sole determination of Seller, occurs:

1. improper installation of the Products into vehicles, including, but not limited to, failure to install, tension and maintain the belt according to the vehicle and belt manufacturers’ recommended procedures, using OE recommended tools or their equivalent; or
2. improper usage by Purchaser, including, but not limited to, failure to use the belt on the application as defined in the belt manufacturer’s printed or online applications catalog; or
3. induction of defect by other products; or
4. mishandling of the Products or other abuse; or
5. improper matching with other applications; or
6. collision, engine overheating or oil starvation, belt misapplication, product contamination, including, but not limited to, with oil or antifreeze; or
7. the Products are used for modified performance, racing or competition; or
8. any use not recommended in writing by Gates.

Failure to replace timing belts or other gates products as specified may result in catastrophic engine or equipment damage, for which Gates disclaims all responsibility, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

Gates Complete™ Serpentine Kits come with lifetime warranty coverage on parts and labor when the kit is installed and the shop is registered. The replacement must take place at a Registered Shop. Gates will pay the Registered Shop’s labor costs using the industry book time standard set by Mitchell 1 or AllData. This is the sole remedy for breach of warranty.

This lifetime warranty does not apply to Gates complete heavy-duty serpentine kits, to complete serpentine kits which are used in commercial applications, or to complete serpentine kits which were not originally installed by a registered shop.
