When pressing the brake pedal, the applied pressure pushes a piston in the master cylinder allowing brake fluid in the system. This engages pistons in the calipers and then the brake pads. Leaks, worn seals, fluid contamination and low fluid levels lead to common brake problems from spongy brake feel, irregular pad wear and issues with brake wheel cylinders. Related parts, such as the brake control relay, are also affected.
